The WWII flag raising on the island of Iwo Jima was staged many times with different flags and flag poles. The original raising was captured on 16mm color film with five men raising the flag after I viewed it in slow mo stop motion many times. All of the subsequent raisings utilized six men photographed with still cameras. The area of the flag raising was littered with debris in the 16mm film from the battle but was not visible in the photos. This flag raising reveals the heart and soul of America and the American people's fierce dedication to freedom.
